Dr. Elizabeth “Liz” Grady, LCMHCS, NCC, BC-TMC founded our first East coast franchise, Lifeologie Counseling Raleigh, last summer (yes, in the middle of a global pandemic) and is now expanding to a second location in Durham! This announcement comes less than a year after opening her first franchise with us, so we sat down with her to discuss her fast and furious journey as a Lifeologie franchisee! Check it out below 🥳
Were you surprised how well your Lifeologie business did during COVID?
Although I had no idea how long or how much the pandemic would affect our community in Raleigh, I knew there was a great need for mental health care and counseling. I wasn’t surprised that our counseling group was well-received, we have the most amazing, compassionate clinicians who have advanced training in many evidence-based practices. In addition, I have been a member of this community for almost 25 years and I have been working as a licensed clinician for nearly all of that time. My experience as a clinician has revealed to me that people face many barriers when seeking mental health care, such as availability and affordability. The services at Lifeologie are designed to help us to reduce those barriers and meet the needs of our community. I have always loved supporting people and helping them live successful, emotionally healthy lives. Lifeologie Counseling Raleigh has allowed me to do more of what I love and, luckily, we were able to do so at one of the highest times of need in recent memory.
Why are you excited to be located in Durham?
I am so excited to be opening an office in Durham because it is among the fastest-growing and most exciting cities in the country! Once known for its booming tobacco production, Durham has transformed itself into an up-and-coming city with numerous awarded restaurants and an ever-growing tech scene. Durham is also home to Duke University and part of the Research Triangle Park, one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the U.S. Durham is growing and changing, and I am thrilled to be part of all the excitement! I love the people of Durham and am honored to be able to offer support for increased mental health and wellness.
What is your hope for this office?
My hope for the Durham office is to offer excellent quality mental health counseling and services to support the people of Durham in practicing self-love and self-compassion, teaching them to take care of and be kind to their bodies, help them make time for mindfulness and find new ways to manage stress, anxiety or depression. I also hope to become a part of the Durham business community in sponsoring ongoing advocacy efforts to take care of marginalized people and those in need.
If you were giving advice to someone considering opening a Lifeologie, what would it be?
I would definitely encourage them to go for it! I am so happy (and grateful) to be part of the Lifeologie family! More specifically, my advice would be to do what you’re afraid to do and push past that fear! Life can seem downright scary sometimes and opening a new business can make your heart race! And for good reason. Owning a business is not for the faint of heart, especially during a pandemic! However, as a part of the Lifeologie team, you will not go at it alone, you will have support, mentorship, and amazing leadership to guide you, walk with you and give you strength to grow a successful business.
